Receiving of samples and ensuring that all incoming samples are correctly identified and processed in accordance with prescribed procedures from the laboratory procedures manual to fulfil requirements of the customer.
Responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling of all the activities of that particular department (bacteriology and quality assurance)
Ensuring that all the equipment are checked and calibrated in accordance with the procedure for accuracy.
Perform microbiological testing of non pathogen organisms on raw and processed products.
Perform salmonella testing using PCR machine.
Perform all chemical oxygen demand using spectrophotometer.
Ensuring the record keeping for traceability.
Reporting to quality manager, laboratory manager, regional vet, and clients of any pathogens detected and out of spec results.
Conducting environmental monitoring of the laboratory
Perform quality control and validation of media.
Book calibrations and services for equipment.
Preparing reference stock and working cultures controls.
Performing control tracking and ensuring that all quality sheets are filled properly.
Ensuring that all health and safety rules are implemented and followed.
Recording of results on the submission form, capturing, entering results, and generating report from LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System)
Performing monthly verifications on balances and pipettes.
Prepare and participate in Proficiency testing.
Assisting in other departments when the need arises.
Participating in clearing of the non conformances.
Developing and validating laboratory microbiological methods.
Recording stock levels of consumables.
Performing of internal audits in the laboratory in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025: 2005.
Signing and distributing of all bacteriology reports.
Compiling weekly reports for the laboratory manager.
Communicate with clients to ensure their needs are met.
Stand in for the laboratory manager when absent from work. To oversee and ensure smooth operation.
Do monthly charge out for the lab clients.
Issuing of medication.
Communicating with maintenance staff of any maintenance issues.
Maintain stock levels.
Training farmers to do sampling and to adhere to triple layer packaging.
