Summary

Profile
I am a passionate and experienced English teacher with over ten years of teaching in international and secondary education contexts. Officially recognized by DUO as a first-degree English teacher, I recently completed an HBO Master’s in Teacher of English at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. Over the past two years, I have also been teaching three days a week in both Dutch and bilingual education systems, which gave me broad exposure to different school levels and heterogeneous classes, and strongly shaped my research interests in motivation, inclusivity, and effective interventions.

I love teaching and learning, and I am equally passionate about research. Exploring classroom challenges and identifying students’ difficulties has inspired me to design meaningful solutions that bridge theory and practice. My teaching philosophy emphasizes goal-oriented, student-centered learning. I design meaningful lessons that combine literature, drama, and digital didactics to foster motivation, engagement, and critical thinking. My approach creates inclusive classrooms where students feel challenged through high expectations and supported through differentiation. I also created several websites and digital tools to support learning, enrich classroom activities, and extend students’ engagement beyond the classroom.

Looking ahead, I am eager to continue this path through a PhD, where I can deepen my research into motivation, equity, and high expectations in diverse classrooms, while contributing practical strategies for teachers.

Work History

English Teacher

Heerbeek college
01.2023 - 01.2025
  • Heerbeeck College, Best — English Teacher (Dutch & Bilingual Education)
    2023 – 2025

Taught classes in Heerbeeck’s bilingual (TTO) program. Designed lessons for heterogeneous classrooms, combining communicative teaching methods, digital tools, and literature to foster language proficiency, inclusivity, and engagement. This experience broadened my teaching scope by working with diverse learners and collaborating closely with colleagues, which deepened my understanding of international and multicultural education contexts.

    Highlights of my work include:
  • Over the past two years, I have taught HAVO 4, VWO 4, and VWO 5, designing lessons that respond to students’ learning needs through innovation, creativity, and research-based practices.
  • In my lessons, I combined drama, literature, and digital didactics to make language skills tangible and lively. I introduced sonnets in an attractive and digital way to VWO5 students, supported by activating and visual working methods. I also designed powerful lessons around the graphic novel, with interactive activities such as a visual timeline, debate assignments, and role-plays that focused on themes. In addition, I initiated the project Grammar in Action - The Drama!, in which students practiced grammatical structures in realistic and creative role-plays.
My experience and creative perspective allow me to effectively integrate drama into every lesson component - from grammar to literature - to promote meaningful learning, language use in context, and expressive skills.
  • As part of my master’s program, I conducted action research to explore barriers in students’ writing proficiency. Through student feedback, classroom observation, and writing sample analysis, I identified key challenges in writing skills - particularly in structure, clarity, and motivation. Based on these findings, I developed classroom interventions to enhance writing performance and engagement through scaffolding strategies, goal setting, and interactive peer feedback.
  • My approach to literature is always creative and student-centered. I guided students through historical texts using visual interpretation, group tasks, and theme-based analysis, encouraging them to connect literature to their own experiences. The lesson structure integrated drama, multimedia, and collaborative exploration, fostering deep engagement with texts.
