With over 30 years medical doctor in Japan is a highly trained professional who diagnoses, treats, and prevents illnesses. After completing a six-year medical program and passing the National Medical Practitioners Qualifying Examination, doctors undergo clinical training in hospitals. They may specialize in areas like internal medicine, surgery, or pediatrics. Japanese doctors work in clinics, hospitals, or research institutions, often dealing with a high volume of patients due to the country’s aging population. They must be licensed by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and are expected to maintain high ethical and professional standards. Continuous education is essential for career advancement.
As a Medical Device Design Engineer, I was responsible for developing and improving medical devices from concept through production. My work involved collaborating with cross-functional teams—including clinicians, regulatory specialists, and manufacturing engineers—to ensure designs met clinical needs, safety standards, and regulatory requirements (such as ISO 13485 and FDA guidelines). I created 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using CAD software, conducted risk assessments (FMEA), and performed prototype testing and validation. I also supported verification and validation (V\&V) activities, participated in design reviews, and maintained design history files. My focus was on innovation, usability, and patient safety.
