  • Monitoring, Starting Up, Shutting Down and Isolating all processes at Shell Bacton Gas Terminal, with adherence to statutory, environmental, commercial and procedural requirements
  • Including the Bacton-Balgzand system which allows gas to flow to and from the continental grid, monitoring dewpoints, compositions, calorific value, flow rates, pressures & temperatures,
  • Remote operation of normally unattended installations, feeding 2 nodals off the South East Coast,
  • Operation of the hydrocarbon dewpointing system and associated propane compressors,
  • Liquid Stabilisation systems and associated distillation columns, GGCs, flash gas compressors,
  • Peripheral systems including instrument air, nitrogen skids, MEG regenerating boilers and fuel gas skids.
  • Providing detailed handover information at shift changes; I am the focal point for the handover software used, and since setting up the system to ensure all stakeholders can input and receive the necessary detail, have continually improved various reports to reflect changing plant equipment and priorities.
  • As senior technician, daily duties are serving as Site Incident Controller, and when standing in as Production Team Lead, serving as Site Main Controller. CROs also have a remote role in incidents on offshore platforms.
  • I have all necessary competencies for my duties for the role above- Verifying, Authorising and Issuing permits and isolations as PTL and/or permit office Stand-In, in addition to drafting & applying isolations and permits during my normal day-to-day duties.

Operations Support Technician

Moved to the Operations Support Team to assist with the "Bacton Rejuvenation Project", which involved:

  • Large scale, inlet-to-export gas process isolations, to allow for significant piping changes to newly installed compressors, isolations to allow fail-closed hydraulic actuators to be fitted to ESD valves (and system commissioning)
  • Providing isolations on dry gas, wet gas and liquid handling systems for annual maintenance, including decontamination
  • Arranging high pressure N2/He leak testing by vendors, in addition to usual small scale / high pressure N2 testing carried out as part of the normal "Operations Technician" role.
